Alexandra Mureșan (b. 1985) is a Romanian visual artist based in Cluj-Napoca whose practice investigates the fragile and often invisible structures that shape human experience. Working with glass as a responsive material rather than a passive medium, she develops sculptural assemblages that explore how perception, material behavior, and inner processes continuously influence one another. Glass, with its sensitivity to heat, gravity, tension, and time, becomes an active participant in her work, revealing its own internal logic through transparency, fragility, and transformation.

Mureșan works across a wide range of glass techniques, including borosilicate flameworking, glassblowing, kiln-formed processes, coldworking, and experimental mixed-media approaches. Her practice is guided by long-term material research in which form emerges through negotiation with physical forces rather than through full control. This approach has led her to think of glass not simply as matter, but as a field of interactions that mirrors broader dynamics found in nature and in human perception.

She holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, where she also completed her MA and BA in Ceramic, Glass, and Metal. In parallel, she earned a BA in Philosophy from Babeș-Bolyai University. This philosophical background plays a significant role in shaping her artistic thinking, particularly her interest in questions of transparency, cognition, and the conditions through which meaning becomes visible. Her research was recognized early in her career with the Jutta Cuny-Franz Memorial Award in Düsseldorf in 2013, for her series Panta Rhei, marking her as an emerging voice in contemporary glass.

Her artistic research focuses on how ephemeral human experiences such as dreams, intuitions, and psychological fluctuations can be translated into modular material structures that behave like evolving ecologies or dynamic diagrams. She is especially drawn to the dual nature of glass as a medium that is technically precise yet poetically elusive, fragile yet resilient, and always situated between clarity and uncertainty.

Through installations and modular glass sculptures, Mureșan seeks to reveal subtle interconnections between internal and external worlds, and to explore how material form can give shape to processes that are invisible, unstable, or in continuous transformation. Her work aims to build bridges between scientific curiosity and embodied experience, inviting viewers to engage with spaces where observation, imagination, and matter converge.

Mureșan has participated in numerous international exhibitions, workshops, and residencies, including S12 Open Access Studio and Gallery in Norway, Berlin Glas e.V., North Lands Creative in Scotland, ISGNE in Germany and the UK, and Eurofabrique at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris. Her work is included in public collections such as the Prague Gallery of Czech Glass, North Lands, the Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca, and Berlin Glas e.V.
