Giorgio Laveri was born in Savona (Italy). Since 1974, he has been professionally involved in cinema and theater. He has written and produced 11 theatrical pieces and 19 feature films, including Scommessa di matrimonio, which won the Critics’ Award at the “Cinema in Casa” festival in Rome. In 1985, he created a line of office ceramics with a “cinematic” theme, and Banque Nationale de Paris organized an exhibition of his work at the Sala delle Quattro Colonne in Milan.
Since 1990, around 300 events have been organized featuring his work, including cinema, theater, performances, and exhibitions of his renowned ceramics. In late 2012, the Mondovì Ceramics Museum dedicated a solo exhibition to him, showcasing some historical pieces from his collection, all of which were published in the well-known Silvana Editoriale catalog.
Starting in 2013, Laveri’s work entered the most prestigious international contemporary art fairs, from Miami to New York, reaching Europe in the most important public and private art galleries. The demand for his ceramic, platinum, and gold sculptures has surpassed all expectations, earning him rapid market success and impressing collectors throughout Europe.
Ceramics is the medium through which Giorgio Laveri best expresses his creativity, creating large-scale works that reinterpret common objects like lipsticks, fountain pens, and film reels. These objects, enlarged and recreated with colored glazes and reflective surfaces, take on a sculptural dimension that plays on the contrast between function and symbolism, emphasizing the role of the object in the modern world. Irony is a key component of Laveri’s work, aiming to evoke a smile and provoke critical reflection on consumerism, pop culture, and image.
Laveri’s works are distinguished by meticulous attention to detail, a sensitivity to vibrant colors, and a preference for round, soft forms. With a strong influence from 1950s and 1960s design, his sculptures are often finished with glossy glazes that accentuate the three-dimensionality and tactile quality of the ceramics.
